Bull Mastiff Puppies are cute living toys that bark and play in a very amusing fashion. Adult Bull Mastiff are large and powerful creatures with intimidating facial expression and self-assured and determined character. It takes quite a bit of character on the part of the owner in order to build a proper relationship with such a dog. It is a must-do for a Bull Mastiff to know its place in the family hierarchy, and it is a must-do for the owner to be able to explain to his or her dog its place and not to lose his or her own. Not all people have the nerve to cope with the dog’s natural striving for dominance, so this is not the right breed for everyone.

Bull Mastiffs are superb guarding dogs, although they are not supposed to be aggressive toward anyone passing by. These dogs are usually suspicious of strangers, but they must and they do rely on their owners’ reaction toward this or that person. Bull Mastiff Puppies must be trained to understand and carry out the owner’s commands, and they require thorough socialization. Bull Mastiffs are usually friendly toward children, but they should not be left around children without adult attendance.

Bull Mastiffs originated in England, descending from old-time Mastiffs and Old English Bulldogs. The breed was developed for guarding estate property against poachers, which required a due level of agility, intelligence, strength and endurance on the dog’s part. Bulldogs were strong and enduring for that sort of activity, but their ferocity prevented them from doing the job properly, as they simply slaughtered victims. Mastiffs were too slow for such action. Therefore, breeders strove to create a strong, agile and intelligent guard dog, which would catch and pin a poacher to the ground without doing much harm to him. Bull Mastiff Puppies can be trained to perform similar actions, because their guarding skills are well inherent in them.

Bull Mastiffs are very sensitive to temperature extremes, and hence they are better off in temperate climates. They are absolutely intolerant of heat and may get a cold easily. These dogs measure 23-26 inches high at the withers. They have a tan coat, and the muzzle is black. Unfortunately, this breed is susceptible to hereditary diseases, such as epilepsy, skin problems, hip and elbow dysplasia and cancer. Life span averages 8-10 years. If you think you have chosen a good Bull Mastiff Puppy, please, use every opportunity to study its pedigree background.
