Bull Mastiffs - Temperament

With Bullmastiffs you should start socialization very early. When trained properly they are obedient, even-tempered and gentle with other animals and people. Sometimes Bullmastiff's puppies don't realize their size and can hurt smaller animals during the play.

Bullmastiffs bond closely not only with their masters, but with whole family. Puppies and mature dogs settle in the new homes and integrate into the new families easily. They are suspicious of strangers, which makes them ideal guard dogs.

The purebred Bullmastiffs can sense people's intentions, they instinctively know if a stranger can hurt their master or his property, or if he's harmless. Bullmastiffs tolerate easily the energy of babies, and other animals, but nevertheless should be supervised.

Bullmastiffs are known for their high tolerance for pain and discomfort. They are suitable for working people (except puppies).

Bull Mastiffs - Care

As shorthaired dogs, Bullmastiffs need minimal grooming: just once a week brushing, ear cleaning, nail trimming should be sufficient. A Bullmastiff doesn't have a double coat or undercoat that sheds out each season. With proper nutrition, regular brushing and a healthy environment, their shedding is minimal. Some Bullmastiffs need face cleaning after eating. Bullmastiffs have very few medical problems; among them are hip dysplasia, cancer, eyelid problems, cataract, and gastric torsion.
