Mastiff Puppy
Bull Mastiffs are hardy and intelligent dogs, renowned for their sturdy body formation and tough general appearance, so there are lots of people willing to have a Mastiff Puppy at home. These dogs have never been intended for any ferocious sport, like bull baiting or dog fights. Bull Mastiffs originated in the 19th century in England as guard dogs. They were supposed to catch and hold poachers in a specific way, without doing much harm to them. Neither Bulldogs nor Mastiffs were suitable for this kind of service, because Mastiffs were too slow to chase poachers, and Bulldogs were too vicious and quick to tear up intruders.
Bull Mastiffs are large and powerful, standing 23-27 inches high at the shoulder and weighing 100-130 lbs on the average. Males are a little larger than females. These dogs have short and smooth coats, which come in different shades of tan, and there is a black mask on the muzzle. The skin on the muzzle forms wrinkles. Mastiff Puppies are quite expensive, and one should be very careful when choosing a conscientious and responsible breeder before purchasing a puppy.
Today, Bull Mastiffs are popular as companion dogs. They are sweet, kind-hearted and communicative. These dogs do not have vicious or wary disposition. They are naturally protective and hence they are suspicious around strangers. However, they never attack without motivation. Even if the situation dictates an attack, they do not usually strike without warning actions. Mastiff Puppies are quick learners, and they appreciate when training process is organized in a positive and consecutive way.
Bull Mastiffs do not require much exercise. They are best suited for cooler climates. Bull Mastiffs, like most Mastiff-type dogs, are very sensitive to heat, and overheating is mortally dangerous for them. A half-hour dwelling in a locked car on a hot day may kill a Bull Mastiff. Bull Mastiffs are susceptible to a number of serious genetic disorders, such as cancer, interdigital cysts, hip and elbow dysplasia, intestinal problems, eye problems (entropion and ectropion), skin allergies, etc. If you would like to purchase a Mastiff Puppy, please, buy only from reputable breeders, who can provide valuable pedigree records on each of their dogs, so that you have a better insight into your dog’s genetic potential.
